TGP deals with a grid infrastructure joining textile firms and technology provider, focused on giving high end services such as production scheduling, global resource scheduling and virtual retailing. The experiment aim at helping competitiveness of textile industry giving the opportunity of using distributed IT infrastructure, pushing collaboration and giving availability of innovative tools.
The aim of this R&D experiment is to organise a common infrastructure joining both research centers and firms. This Virtual Laboratory will give SMEs, focusing on the textile industry, the opportunity of giving high level of “grid enabled” services taking advantage of the most advanced technology in term of software and hardware.
The strategic vision behind this research is that our European Textile system of SMEs can afford the new competition only by rallying together in "systems" that we can call "Extended Enterprises" big enough to strongly preside the critical areas of the industrial pipeline.
The competitiveness of the EU textiles industry and of its SMEs in particular is in remarkable danger because of the well known reasons linked to economy globalisation processes and to the recent world trade agreements.
The reason behind this need is to give textile/clothing industrial firms the opportunity to enhance their competitiveness giving a higher level of service. Competition of China and other emerging countries joined with the need of renewing the customer’s confidence is giving all SMEs the important task of constantly improving their structure.
The research centres, during the last years, focused their efforts on Information Technology to give the availability of hardware and software resources in a Grid environment. The grid technology finally gives the opportunity to the industry to share databases in a secure environment, and to use high amount of storage and computing power in a simple and transparent way.
The main objectives of the experiment are:
